Alternatives accounted for a third of all the UK’s property investment in the first half of 2017 – and this market continues to grow. This dynamic sector which includes student housing, healthcare, data centres, automotive and self storage is increasing in popularity as investors search for more stable income, good adjusted returns and better transparency.

The self storage sector is worth a closer look with institutional investors also stepping into this market for the first time following the sale of The Self Storage Company to Schroders UK Real Estate Fund in the summer.

  • Appetite for self storage is growing
  • There has been an 18% increase in self storage facilities across Europe in the last 12 months
  • Three out of four operators expect 2017 to be a more profitable year than 2016
