The Social Care Deficit: All our futures considers the demographic issues that will confront the UK over the next twenty years in relation to the provision and staffing of social care establishments. Increases in life expectancy and the consequential rise in chronic conditions point towards a dramatic increase in the need for social care services.
Over this twenty year period, the number of people aged over 85 will more than double to 3.2 million, many of whom will be in need of long-term care in specialist settings.
The expectation is that the private sector will increasingly finance and develop the facilities necessary to meet this growing need. Such investment decisions demand an increasingly thorough comprehension of the attendant commercial risks.
